In addition to commemorating the 10-year anniversary of Blur Studio (www.blur.com), 2006 also marks the year that the award-winning CG animation studio expands into the world of feature films, according to company president Tim Miller who just announced plans to develop its 2005 Academy-Award nominated short film Gopher Broke into a full-length feature film.
The short, which will also be featured during the Animation Spotlight at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, was most recently honored at the Animago Festival in Munich and the Imagina Awards in France. Written and directed by Jeff Fowler and Executive Produced by Miller, Gopher Broke is an endearing story about a hungry gopher who devises a scheme that he hopes will provide him with a tasty snack.
Gopher Broke was one of six animated short films accepted to be screened at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival from a total of 4327 submissions. The film will also be available at (http://www.sundance.org) during The Sundance Film Festival Online, starting January 19, 2006 through June 19, 2006.
“I am thrilled to be part of the Blur Studio creative team which works tirelessly to develop fun and imaginative projects like Gopher Broke’” states Fowler, who will also write and direct the feature film adaptation of the award-winning short. “It is an honor to participate in this year’s Sundance Film Festival.”
Blur Studio has also announced plans to target a Summer 2006 start date for production on its debut animated feature film RockFish.” The film, based on the company’s award-winning short of the same name, will be written and directed by Blur Studio’s Tim Miller.
“Our main goal at Blur is to make great CG animated features. With RockFish already underway, the Academy Award nomination and Sundance recognition for Gopher Broke, we are more than ready for further expansion in this area,” states Miller. “The success of our shorts validates our commitment to being quality writers, directors and animators, who are capable of producing all genres of animated film.”
