Digital Vision Demos Film Master 4.0

At IBC, Digital Vision will celebrate the company's 20th year, highlighting tapeless workflows and nonlinear grading and mastering solutions, including native support of Red R3D, Sony XDCAM, Panasonic P2 and Vision Research PhantomCine.
Digital Vision will be highlighting to visitors why its technologies have been chosen over its 20-year history, displaying state of the art tapeless workflows and nonlinear grading and mastering solutions including native support of Red R3D, Sony XDCAM, Panasonic P2 and Vision Research PhantomCine.
Building on the current release where tapeless integration including support for Avid media and metadata took a high priority, Digital Vision will present the next step in broadcast mastering including further support of AAF effects, AAF export and XML ingest for many forms of metadata. Film Master already offers the best throughput in the non-linear world but this capability will be dramatically extended as more of the DVO effects are now implemented on the GPU. This includes ZOM (rescaler), Defocus, Aperture, Alias and De-interlace. All these options will be available realtime along with colour correction and 3D LUT and can be played direct to tape without rendering. This means that multiple versions at different resolutions can be exported with different grades, sharpness and noise settings without the need for any additional disk space or rendering delays.
A full floating point pipeline with native Open EXR support combined with a Windows 64 bit release means that 4k floating point processing is now cost effective and achievable and it means that for digital intermediate grading where film scans, CGI and digital sources are combined there is no compromise or conversion when performing the final grade. Floating point processing also includes the ability to have negative color and colors above the white point so there is no chance of clipping or crushing during the mastering process.
Digital Vision has also enhanced its support for stereoscopic mastering with tools to allow users to easily grade left, right or both eyes with the ability to see both side-by-side and stereoscopic views on two different monitors. Further 3D support will include convergence tools, keystone correction and DVO Tracker to allow corresponding regions to be isolated in both streams at the same time.
The new DVO Tracker is the result of months of research to fine-tune the PHAMETM algorithms to region tracking with the result that this is probably the most accurate and sophisticated tracker available on the market. It works entirely automatically to lock the shape to the element in the picture throughout the shot requiring no user intervention.
Phoenix is the perfect solution for restoration, re-mastering and repurposing and at IBC 2008 Digital Vision will be showing its latest version which includes DVO Flicker and DVO Inverse TC, a 10 times speed enhancement to its DVO Fix tool and an improved DVO Deinterlace. Phoenix is the world╒s premier re-mastering application with installations in Ascent Media, Technicolor, Postworks and Deluxe and provides many automated and semi automated tools for translating film and tape archives into pristine digital masters for DCI, Bluray Disc, HD TV and VOD.
Phoenix will be shown in conjunction with Turbine to demonstrate how restoration and re-mastering of large archives can be performed faster than realtime.
Previewed at NAB 2008, Digital Vision will be showing Turbine at IBC, its high-performance render accelerator for all Digital Vision software. With Turbine, facilities can assign as many Intel CPU cores as are necessary to a project and it will enable 4k real-time capabilities and allow facilities to run multiple 2k or HD tasks in faster than real time. This support delivers eight times more processing power than any other high-end finishing system available, in half of the rack space and requiring less power.
