Victor Company of Japan Ltd developed a 1.75-inch (44mm diagonal) micro display called "1.75-inch 8K4K D-ILA Device," which can display 8192 x 4320 (about 35 million) pixels.
The name "D-ILA" refers to "Direct-Drive Image Light Amplifier," which is a display device for use in projectors. The D-ILA can display images with 7680 x 4320 resolution, which is defined as "Super Hi-Vision" by the ITU-R BT.1769 and SMPTE 2036 standards, with only a single device.
The pixel pitch is 4.8μm. Victor achieved an aperture ratio of 90% or higher by reducing the pixel gap to 0.24μm. With the adoption of a technology to reduce disorder caused by improper liquid crystal orientation, the company reduced scattering and diffraction of light at the reflection surface, thereby increasing the contrast ratio to 20,000:1.
