Leading cinema services company, DIVE, a division of Shooters Post & Transfer, (www.shootersinc.com), detailed its role in providing Digital Intermediate services and overall workflow solutions to filmmaker, Alex Smith, and his upcoming independent film, Bottleworld.
DIVE’s Executive Producer, Andy Williams, and Director of Technology, Bob Pyle, collaborated with the movie’s producers developing the most efficient and economical DI workflow for the film. Bottleworld is one of the first films to be shot on the new Panasonic HPX-3000 that records 1080P HD media to P2 cards with variable frame rate capabilities.
“Our infrastructure and our interest in designing the workflow enabled this project to be produced from start to finish in 1080P HD,” said Williams. “We are a tech-savvy indie-friendly company who makes the experience a partnership with the filmmaker.”
On the set, the crew downloaded all of their media and then transported it to DIVE's facility via FireWire 800 shuttle drives. Overnight, the data was moved onto DIVE's Bright Systems SAN where it was edited (assembled) in full 1080P HD resolution. The media required approximately 3 Terabytes worth of space.
After production was complete, and the material was assembled, the filmmakers took the media offsite to complete their edit. Upon completion, the final, full-resolution sequence will come back to DIVE for the Digital Intermediate in the company’s new Digital Cinema Suite using their daVinci Resolve RT system.
“Working with DIVE has been a pleasure all the way around,” said Bottleworld producer, Tevin Adelman. “They understand our needs and requirements and they worked with us throughout the production phase to make sure we were able to cut the film the way we needed…it is working out perfectly.”
Bottleworld is an ensemble comedy that revolves around a liquor store of the same name and one of the central characters named Wilson. Wilson falls in love with the store owner’s daughter and then tries to convince the two that an angry employee is going to terrorize the store.
“This film could have never been produced on budget if it weren’t for the creative input and workflow solutions DIVE is providing us,” said Adelman. “It is a perfect marriage between the creative filmmaker’s vision and the creative technical and artistry side of the post-production process. We were able to set up the project with DIVE and the transition to the DI process will be seamless.”
