It's not exactly a theme park and not a studio tour either, but Peter Jackson fanatics from around the world may want to start booking passage for New Zealand to check out Weta Cave.

Jackson's famed visual-effects house threw open its doors to offer a behind-the-scenes look at the fantastical creatures crafted by Weta artisans for the Lord of the Rings trilogy and King Kong.

Weta creative director Richard Taylor, who supervised visual effects for King Kong, said: "We know a lot of people have wanted to see what we're all about. It's one thing to see it on the big screen, but this way we can give Wellingtonians and visitors a much closer view of Weta."
